Villa international relishing clean slate

Aston Villa stopper, Richard Dunne, has revealed that he may have left the club if Gerard Houllier remained at its helm.

Houllier was forced to withdraw from his post at Villa following health problems, and Dunne admits that he is happier to be playing under Alex McCleish.

The Republic of Ireland international had a tough relationship with his former French boss that resulted in an off-the-field incident at a health spa last season.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, the centre-back said: “I probably would have left if Houllier had stayed.  But once there was a new manager coming in, I knew I had a chance to stay.”

The defender also commented on the possibility of following compatriot, Robbie Keane, to the MLS, noting: “I think it would be nice to live the lifestyle out there. If the opportunity came at 34-35, I’d definitely take it.”
