Wigan Athletic manager, Roberto Martinez, claims the club have no plans to loan out Chris Kirkland, after the keeper became second choice to summer signing, Ali Al-Habsi.
The former Liverpool and Coventry stopper was thought to have been wanted by a number of Championship clubs on loan during the summer transfer window, but Martinez wants him to stick around at the DW Stadium and fight for his place.
The Spaniard commented: “We don’t want him to go. Chris has a fighting mentality and wants to be No.1 – that’s why I want him in the dressing room.”
He added: “If he did accept being second choice it would be time to move.”
