Tottenham to make offer for Championship starlet

Tottenham are hoping to tie up the January signature of Crystal Palace hotshot, Wilfried Zaha, but will have a number of obstacles to face before completing any deal.

The most obvious issue that Spurs will have to deal with is fending off the interest from other possible suitors in the race to sign the youngster being tracked by just about any club with the funds to support such a move.

Some of the bigger names monitoring Zaha’s situation include Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United, who felt the true potential of his talent after November’s Carling Cup defeat to Palace at Old Trafford.

The other hurdle Tottenham are faced with will be Palace’s progress in the Carling Cup, which currently sees them 1-0 up going to the second leg of their Semi-Final against Cardiff City.

If the Eagles were to carry on their advantage and make it all the way to Wembley, it would surely make the odds of signing Zaha all the more difficult as he will be keen to feature in a domestic final with the club where he completed his youth training.

Despite the fact the 19 year-old signed a five-year contract extension with Palace in Deceber, the amount of transfer speculation circulating Zaha’s signature hasn’t decreased in the slightest and England’s elite remain interested in his acquisition.

The winger is a firm feature of Dougie Freedman’s side and has shown maturity beyond his years in the past two Championship seasons, lighting up the league with his dazzling footwork and rapid dribbling runs.

Zaha is currently valued at £7.5m and could just be the ‘major’ signing that Harry Redknapp hinted that Spurs would make in January.
