Liverpool set to sign US trialist

After spending a fortnight on trial at the club, Juan Agudelo may soon be completing a move to the Premier League by signing with Liverpool.

Agudelo is currently on the books at MLS side New York Red Bulls but would undoubtedly jump at the chance to move to the English top flight for the progress of his career.

The 19 year-old made 29 appearances for the Red Bulls in 2011, scoring six goals in the process leading Liverpool to become interested in his signature.

Agudelo is also a United States international and has featured in 15 games for The Stars and Stripes since making his debut in 2010.

The forward is seen as somewhat of a rising star in North American football and it seems the Reds are looking to sign the youngster as offensive backup.

Kenny Dalglish is suffering from a slight shortage of attackers up front with Luis Suarez currently sitting on the sidelines as part of an eight-match ban.

With the Uruguayan’s suspension, the Anfield outfit only have Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt to use as natural strikers.

The Merseysiders were already being rumoured to be in the market for a goalscorer and while his signature may not be the big name club supporters were hoping for, his meagre £2m price-tag may be of interest.

After failing to topple relegation struggling Bolton over the weekend, it’s possible that Liverpool may be involved in a lot more transfer negotiations over the next week and a half, with Agudelo just one name fans could see on the teamsheet in February.
