Arsenal keeping tabs on Serbian sensation

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Firoentina youngster, Matija Nastasic, with a view to making a summer move for the sensation.

Despite his age, the 18 year-old has accumulated a decent amount of game time for the Italian outfit this season, making eight league starts under Dello Rossi.

It was recently announced that Johan Djourou just penned a contract extension at the Emirates Stadium but Arsene Wenger continues to be linked with defensive replacements nonetheless.

Per Mertesacker was signed from Werder Bremen last summer and Laurent Koscielny have proved to be a powerful pair when playing together but cover is in short supply with the injury-prone Thomas Vermaelen experiencing a large amount of time on the sidelines.

Nastasic fits in perfectly with the ‘Arsenal way of buying’ and is still young enough for Arsene Wenger to assert his influence on the starlet and mould him how he sees fit should he migrate to North London.

The teenager has also made 19 appearances for the Serbian Under-21 side and could see a move to the Premier League as the perfect opportunity to highlight his talent and progress even further on the international scale.

Having only signed for La Viola in 2011, Fiorentina won’t be keen to let go of their prospect but should Arsenal match their reported £7m estimation of the player, they may have little choice in the matter.
