Arsenal talisman opens contract talks

Robin van Persie has reiterated his commitment to ArsenalIt has been revealed by Arsenal manager Arsene Wegner that the club have started negotiations with star Robin Van Persie over a new contract.
The Holland international has only 18 months remaining on his current contract, and has been the Gunners’ key player this season, scoring nine goals in thirteen games for the club already.

It had been thought that talks between the club and player had broken down, resulting in Van Persie being linked with a move away from the club. However Arsenal will now attempt to tie down the striker who has looked very impressive in 2011.

Van Persie is believed to be becoming frustrated at the Emirates Stadium with the lack of trophies and failure to capture big name players. Also he was left disillusioned with the club allowed star duo Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri transfer away to Barcalona and Manchester City respectively.

The Gunners are desperate to keep their captain who has become a vital part of the club following the mass exodus that occurred at Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Wenger said: “He has 18 months to go and I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal. I’m always confident.”

This will be music to the ears of the Arsenal fans who have been left disheartened following Wengers’ men unimpressive start to the campaign.
