The Frenchman is ’99 per cent’ sure midfielder Francis Coquelin will sign a new contract with the Gunners.
The youth international from France has stepped into the fray this month and has made the defensive midfield position his own, with an individual display away at Manchester City which caught many an eye.
Following a solid but short loan spell at Charlton, Coquelin is now a key man at the Emirates and Wenger is certain that the 23-year-old will sign on, however there’s no news on midfield partner Mikel Arteta.
“On Coquelin, it’s 99 per cent sure that he will stay here,” Wenger said.“But we have nothing new to announce on Mikel Arteta.” he added.
Meanwhile striker Joel Campbell left north London for yet another loan spell this week as part of the Gabriel Paulista deal with Villarreal.
The Costa Rica International signed a new deal before he left though and Wenger sees a future for the pacey front man at the Emirates despite a lack of game time so far.
“Joel has extended his contract so he will go to Villarreal and he needed games. Here was a bit obstructed for him because there were too many players in the same position.” Added Wenger while talking on joel Campbell.
