Chelsea admit interest in new centre-back

Villas Boas has admitted interest in Gary CahillChelsea FC manager Andre Villas Boas has admitted that the club are paying attention to Gary Cahill and that current centre-back Alex could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this January.

Alex is believed to have handed in a transfer request whilst Gary Cahill has been linked with a move away from Bolton Wanderers since last summer. With the England international’s current contract ending this summer, Owen Coyle’s side are looking to cash in but will lose out heavily having not sold him in the summer with figures quoted around £15m for the 26 year old.

Villas Boas said of Cahill and Alex.

“We are aware of Gary’s contractual situation, he’s an interesting player for the club. You know that we have taken a decision this season regarding the central defenders, regarding Alex. We haven’t decided yet what we are going to do with the Alex situation. We have to make the wisest decision, be it Alex, be it Cahill.”

Chelsea will also be aware of the current 8 match ban that Luis Suarez received on Tuesday and will be hoping the same punishment will not fall on club captain John Terry. The current valuation for Gary Cahill is currently around the £8m mark and a move to the West London club looks more than likely in January.
