Chelsea v Newcastle Odds : Champions League qualification at stake as Torres looks to fire Blues

Chelsea take on Newcastle on Wednesday evening in a match that could have a massive say on who will finish in the top four this season, as bookmakers Bet365 make Roberto Di Matteo’s side overwhelming favourites at 8/15.

Chelsea currently occupy sixth position but are just one point behind Tottenham in fourth place so will be confident of finishing in the Champions League places.

The Blues were fantastic against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, thrashing their London rivals 6-1. This game also saw a welcome return to form for Fernando Torres, the £50 million man netted his first hat-trick in a Chelsea shirt.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side are now unbeaten in eleven game across all competitions and with an FA Cup and Champions League final still to come, it could prove to be one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history.

Di Matteo has done a great job since taking charge on an interim basis in March and many people are now tipping the Italian to be given the job full time, especially if he delivers success in the two finals.

As for Newcastle, they suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Wigan on Saturday, a result that very few people were expecting.

The Magpies had been on a run of six straight wins which had seen them move up to fourth position in the Premier League, however Tottenham’s win over Blackburn saw them move back down to fifth.

With games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton still to come for Alan Pardew’s side, they know it will be a tough ask for them to finish in the top four.

Pardew will know that it has been an incredible campaign for the club regardless, but will be asking for one final push from his team to try and catch Arsenal in third place. This would be a remarkable achievement considering they were playing in the Championship two years ago.

It’s all set to be a great game between two sides with so much still to play for and it gets underway from 7.45pm on Wednesday.
