Everton boss David Moyes could be about to scupper Aston Villa’s plans to sign Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia after the Midlands club had a £9million offer rejected last week. The news Everton are set to swoop for N’Zogbia will not go down well with Villa manager Alex McLeish, who has expressed his desire to bring in a winger after the sales of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.
Wigan are said to be reluctant to sell their prize asset but, if the right offer comes in, it is understood that the club would find it hard to restrict the player leaving the club. Sources claim Everton have recognised this and Moyes is set to offer striker Yakubu plus cash in an attempt to bring the Frenchman to Goodison Park.
Dave Whelan, Wigan’s chairman, has reportedly suggested that he is expecting N’Zogbia to leave this summer. However, the Latics rebuffed the only tabled offer of £9million for the player from Aston Villa as they stand firm on their asking price of £10million. It is not known whether the club will view Everton’s part-exchange offer as acceptable in terms of their valuation.
N’Zogbia, as it stands, is preparing to go on Wigan’s pre-season tour of Austria this week. It has been reported, though, that the Frenchman is far from happy at the DW Stadium and is determined to force a move away from Wigan.
