Sources reveal captain could leave Chelsea in summer

Sources around Stamford Bridge are rumouring that Chelsea will look to ease their financial woes this summer by letting troubled England captain John Terry leave the club.

The controversial Chelsea skipper has faced calls from all corners of football to resign as England captain and not play in the European Championships after the defenders trial on racial abuse charges was delayed until July.

UEFA’s rules of financial fair play are due to come into effect next year and with Chelsea reporting a loss of £67.7m they will need to balance their finances out otherwise they will not be able to take part in European competitions. Terry currently is on a huge £120,000-per-week contract at Stamford Bridge and it could be in the best interests of both parties to make him available for a transfer.

The 31-year-old faces criminal charges of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League match last October against QPR. The player strongly denies the allegations and has vowed to clear his name, but is rumoured to fear the worst regarding his international future.

This has allegedly opened up Terry’s mind to a move abroad in order to escape the controversy that has plagued his career in England. Unfortunately, Terry has never been far away from the media spotlight.

He was charged by the FA in 2009 for allegedly taking money from an undercover reporter for a private tour of Chelsea’s training ground and was part of a tabloid scandal that alleged he had an affair with former England and Chelsea teammate Wayne Bridge’s partner.

His reputation off the field in England probably has hit an-all-time-low but on the field he still is regarded as one of the best centre-half’s in the world and would be an attractive proposition for major clubs in Spain and Italy.
