Liverpool to reignite interest in Fiorentina winger Vargas

Liverpool are set to reignite their bid to bring Fiorentina winger Juan Manuel Vargas to Anfield this summer according to a Footy Bunker source.

The Peru international has been touted to leave Serie A before the new season kicks off next month and was linked with a move to Merseyside earlier this year.

Damien Comolli and Kenny Dalglish scouted the 28-year-0ld, who can also operate at left back, during their time together at the club and it seems Brendan Rodgers also considers him a transfer target.

Rodgers has already raided Italy’s top-flight to sign Fabio Borini from Roma having worked with the striker during spells at Chelsea and Swansea City.

Having lightened the Reds’ wage bill in recent weeks the Northern Irishman is desperate to add a new midfielder to his squad ahead with the new Premier League campaign set to get underway in 10 days.

Vargas’ versatility will certainly appeal to the Reds chief as he looks to guide the club back into the Champions League with his agent hinting in June that his client could leave Florence.

“There is the possibility that he (Vargas) will leave Fiorentina,” Jorge Cyterszpiler said to www.tuttomercatoweb.com.

“But at this time it’s just a rumour and there is nothing official. He didn’t have the best best of seasons and he needs to make up for it next season.

“Liverpool is an option, but there is also Malaga that has the fascination of playing in next season’s Champions League.

“Does he have a preference with regards to playing the Premier League or the Primera Liga? Vargas likes both leagues as well as the Serie A.”

Primera Liga side Malaga are just one of the clubs linked with a move for the South American and could rival Liverpool for his signature after selling Santi Cazorla to Arsenal.
