Premier League big guns price Newcastle United out of move for superstar striker

It seems that Newcastle United may have ran out of steam in their pursuit of CSKA Moscow forward, Seydou Doumbia, after apparently being quoted a sum of nearly £25m to take him away from the Russian outfit.

They may, however, still meet the striker in the Premier League as Arsenal and Tottenham will find the rumoured pricetag a lot more within their reach than the Magpies.

Spurs have endured a lack of striking talent for some time now but can take appreciation from the efforts of the on-loan Adebayor, as Jermain Defoe continues to be linked with a move away from the team.

Meanwhile at the Emirates Stadium, Robin van Persie has taken the gargantuan majority of the scoring duties for Arsenal, and may enjoy some weight being lifted from his shoulders should the Gunners sign a big-name goal threat.

Doumbia made his name in Switzerland, scoring 50 goals in 64 games during his time with Young Boys.

This came before a 2010 move to CSKA Moscow, where he lit up the Russian Premier League and has since enjoyed similar success in front of goal, netting 29 times in 41 appearances.

On paper, it’s easy to see why the bitter North London rivals are tussling it out to gain the services of the Ivorian international, as he would surely present a boost to either side in their search for a Champions League spot finish.

Despite moving to CSKA only 18 months ago, the 23 year-old may be tempted by the fresh challenge of the Premier League, and will be hoping to carry his goal ratio across the Baltic Sea.
