Real Madrid on red alert after Modric misses Spurs training

Luka Modric looks certain to leave Tottenham Hotspur after he was absent from training and looks likely to miss their tour of the United States the Guardian reports.

The Croatian international has acknowledged his desire to depart White Hart Lane this summer with doubts surfacing over whether he will board the team flight to Los Angeles that departs on Saturday.

Real Madrid are hoping to sign Modric with new Spurs boss indicating he can leave provided Spanish champions meet their asking price, which is believed to be £40 million.

“His situation will continue as it is until the price is right. Luka is an intelligent person and understands the club have to defend his value, their values, rights and interests,” Villas-Boas told the Daily Mail on Thursday.

“The offer has not met what the chairman wants. If that is met there won’t be any problems.

“It’s important to understand his feelings. We have been speaking and I understand his point and he understands the club’s point.”

Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United are all thought to be interested in the playmaker but Modric has his heart set on a move to the Santiago Berbabeu.

Madrid president Florentino Pérez is confident of securing his signature despite submitting an offer of €32m (£24.9m), with a further €8m, which falls well below Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s valuation.

Levy is only interested in a straight cash deal and will reject any approach that includes players included as part-exchange with manager Jose Mourinho thought to have been offered out-of-favour defender Ricardo Carvalho and midfielder Nuri Sahin

Villas-Boas is said to be preparing a raid on former club Porto for a replacement for Modric and has already lined up Joao Moutinho, who was an influential figure during the 34-year-old’s successful stint in charge at the Portuguese club.
