Redknapp set to pursue Wigan Striker

Not even the transfer window shutting can stop Harry Redknapp in his pursuit of finding some value in the transfer market.

The Spurs manager, despite being in court on tax evasion charges, has reportedly made a move to bring Hugo Rodallega in at the end of the season.

The Columbian-international was very close to moving to Spurs at the end of the transfer window, but a deal could not be agreed in time, with Wigan very adamant of keeping their striker until the end of the season when he contract is due to expire.

The only offer Wigan received that met their £4m valuation came from QPR but Roberto Martinez did not want to sell to a relegation threatened rival.

The failure to do a deal now means he is available on a free-transfer in July and Redknapp is very keen to make sure Tottenham is his chosen destination.

Fulham are also in the hunt for the player, and had an offer of their own turned down on deadline day, but Rodallega is looking for at least £50,000-a-week in wages which doesn’t fit in with the tight wage structure at Craven Cottage. That apparently was one of the reasons they couldn’t stop Bobby Zamora joining QPR and increasing his wage by £20,000-per-week.

The deal would complete a dream for the striker, who has openly admitted he wants to play for a club with European aspirations. But whether Spurs fans will be jumping for joy at the move is doubtful.

Rodallega has been in poor form this season for Wigan, scoring only two goals in the Premier League and has angered fans with his questionable attitude.
