Sunderland FC to try luck with bid for Porto ace

Hulk is wanted by many clubs, Sunderland have the cash so why not?Reports from Portugal are suggesting that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is to try an audacious bid for Porto striker Givanildo Vieira de Souza, best known as Hulk.

Two years ago this may have been seen as impossible however with the recent sale of Darren Bent for a reported £18m plus a suggested transfer kitty of £10m for the summer, Sunderland will certainly have the cash to make a respected bid for the striker.

The biggest obstacle for Bruce would be to persuade Hulk to join a club that will not be in Europe next season and with Porto certain to be in the Champions League next year, the Brazilian may feel it wise to test his abilities in the European competition.

The lure of the Premiership would be a good selling point but the likelyhood of the 24 year old swapping Champions League football for a stint at the Stadium of Light. However, you just never know. Stranger things have happend in football and the sight of Hulk putting on The Black Cats shirt may not be a complete fantasy for fans just yet.

Should Sunderland make this audacious bid they are likely to receive competition from other Premiership clubs with the likes of Manchester United, City and Chelsea also rumoured to be interested in his signature.
