Tottenham manager rules out rival swap

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has ruled out any possibility of a deal with Chelsea to swap Luka Modric for striker Fernando Torres.
Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the Croatian midfielder and had a series of bids rejected by their London rivals last summer.

Redknapp is adamant that Modric is at White Hart Lane for the long run; however recent speculation had linking Torres with a move across the capital.
Despite this, Redknapp has wasted no time to dismiss a deal for the Spanish international, but insists that he can notice the player returning to his best.

Torres has been far from impressive since his move to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool, but Redknapp does not see any sort of deal happening between the clubs.

“No I have never heard that one,” he said when asked about a potential Torres-Modric swap.

“I think Torres is starting to look the player that we all know he can be, the player he was at Liverpool – he is a top player no doubt that about it.

“But there is no way he is coming to Tottenham and no swap deal is in the offing for Luka Modric, I think they will get the best out of him.”

Torres has only scored 2 Premier League goals this season and has also struggled to cement a place in the Chelsea starting line-up, but with striker Didier Drogba unavailable due to the African Cup of Nations, he is set for a good run of games throughout January.
