Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich has asked Ron Gourlay and Bruce Buck to complete the transfer signings of Javier Pastore, Romelu Lukaku and Luka Modric as soon as possible.
The Russian owner has become frustrated at Chelsea’s lack of business in the transfer market and wants some big names signings completed by early August. Pastore looks to be a deal on the verge of success with even Palermo’s vice-president claiming the 22 year old will probably move to West London.
Lukaku is a slightly different matter with Chelsea and the player’s club Anderlecht failing to agree on a price for the 18 year old. Anderlecht are believed to be wanting close to €30m for the player dubbed the “new Didier Drogba” whilst Chelsea are not looking to pay more than £20m-£22m for the youngster. Whilst Abramovich would like the deal concluded asap, it looks to be one transfer saga that will end towards the end of August.
Modric is the golden egg for Abramovich with a £35m offer to be made now turning into a cash plus player offer for the 24 year old Croatian. Should Tottenham remain strong in Chelsea’s attempts the White Hart Lane side could yet pull off a small psychological victory – albeit with a player who is not keen to remain. Of players suggested to be involved in any player plus cash offer is the impressive Daniel Sturridge or even Saloman Kalou.
