AC Milan plotting loan swoop for Andy Carroll

AC Milan are contemplating a loan move for Andy Carroll after Pier Silvio Berlusconi stated he wanted to see the Liverpool striker sign for the Rossoneri The Sun reports.

Berlusconi junior – son of ex-Italian PM and Milan president Silvio – revealed last week that he had been impressed by the 23-year-old’s performances for England at Euro 2012.

With the Italian giants on the lookout for a new frontman the media tycoon believes they should look no further than Carroll after his name cropped up during discussions regarding Albero Aqualani’s return to Merseyside following his year at the San Siro.

“This is a new era for Milan,” Berlusconi said.

“We will continue to get younger while maintaining the culture.

“Milan still has its superstars but I’d like to have Carroll at Milan. I was impressed with his strength and his headed goal against Sweden.”

It’s thought Berlusconi senior is taking his sons advice seriously according to reports in Italy and with Carroll unlikely to feature heavily in Brendan Rodgers’ plans next season a loan deal could be on the cards.

Milan would be unable to afford the £35 million price tag on the former Newcastle United forwards head making a permanent deal impossible at this stage.

Meanwhile the Daily Mail are reporting that the Reds have been knocked back in their efforts to sign Real Madrid’s out-of-favour midfielder Esteban Granero.

Rodgers has yet to enter the transfer market since taking over the Anfield hot seat from Kenny Dalglish in June and wanted the Spaniard to be his first signing after missing out on Gylfi Sigurdsson following his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Northern Irishman wanted the 25-year-old, who  is surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu and was a target for Arsenal last season, to boost his midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.
