Adam Johnson expecting Mario Balotelli to hit twenty goals a season

Johnson expects Balotelli to hit at least twenty goals a season for Manchester CityManchester City midfielder and rumoured Liverpool FC target Adam Johnson believes that team mate Mario Balotelli is the right type of player to be hitting at least twenty goals a season.

Balotelli was once again on the scoresheet in Manchester City’s recent victory against Blackburn Rovers, a fixture in which many felt City may stumble, especially after the Carlos Tevez saga in Munich last week where the striker refused to play causing friction between the player and manager.

Johnson though feels that with Balotelli’s size and specific attributes, he has the makings of one of the Premiership’s top scorers each season.

“Everyone knows what Mario’s like but he’s a goalscorer, he’s a man who can get 20 goals a season if he plays as a central striker. He’s a big lad, strong, he has all the attributes. It’s just a case of putting it together week in, week out. He’s close to doing that as well.”

The Manchester City midfielder added:

“You look at his stats and it just proves his goalscoring ability. If you give him a chance, he’ll put it away.”

Johnson was also full of praise for the whole squad with how they coped in the aftermath of the Champions League match against Bayern Munich, expressing his delight at how well the group stood together.

“You can certainly say it was a good response to what happened, you could see we were together out there but the unity has never gone, it’s always been there. We showed our resilience. After everything that’s happened and then coming in at 0-0, a few heads could have gone down. We could have crumbled. But this shows the strength of the squad and the character we have here.”
