Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is pining for a switch to Manchester United with it now looking certain that he will leave Ajax this summer the Daily Mail report.
Zenit St Petersburg have reportedly opened talks with the Dutch giants over a £20 million deal for Eriksen but he is hopeful United are also in the running for his signature.
The 20-year-old is keen on a move to Old Trafford and to play under Sir Alex Ferguson, who was impressed with his performances last season’s Europa League encounter.
Ferguson has previously spoken of his admiration for the playmaker and could be tempted into pursuing a deal as he looks to strengthen his midfield after losing Park Ji Sung to QPR earlier this month.
Eriksen’s desire to sign for the Red Devil’s is evident having identified them and Spanish side Barcelona as the clubs he would like to join should he leave the Amsterdam Arena.
He will ask the Eredivisie champions’ new director of football Marc Overmars if the Premier League giants have made an approach as he looks to make his dream of playing in England a reality.
Meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatovn has admitted he will look to leave United after coming to the realisation that he is no longer guaranteed first team football.
The 31-year-old Bulgarian made just 21 appearances last season after falling behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order and says it’s ‘better for everyone’ if he left.
“I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone if I am not playing,” Berbatov wrote on his official website.
“I want to play, I want to help, but for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen.
“So it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye. If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can to help my team and my teammates, whenever I have the opportunity to do so.”
