Albert Pujols could be back tonight say Cards

Albert Pujols is set to make his return to the Cardinals’ starting line-up tonight, after missing a month of the season through a broken left wrist. He will be examined before the game by the team doctors but he’s been taking indoor fielding and batting practice since the weekend. This has all led to the St. Louis management feeling optimistic ahead of Tuesday’s game at home to Cincinnati.

“He’s definitely ahead of schedule,” said head coach Tony La Russa. “There’s absolutely no doubt about that.” The Cardinals head staff had initially believed that the triple National League MVP would be out for six or seven weeks and would return in early August. However, the clean-up hitter in the St. Louis line-up has shown his determination to play once again and is listed as probable to start tonight’s game at his usual spot of #3 in the line-up.

In response to the news Cincinnati Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said “without Pujols they’ve still got a good offense, but with Albert they’ve got a great offense.” Baker deflected attention away from his team’s run of bad form, with the Reds having lost 6 of their last 10 going into Tuesday night’s game.
