Ander Herrera hopeful of  a quick return

Manchester United midfielder, Ander Herrera says that he is hoping to make a quick return to first team action ahead of the Boxing Day visit of Newcastle United.

The Spaniard has not really been seen playing a lot since joining the Red Devils from Athletic Bilbao in the summer transfer window. However, much of his absence is partly due to various injuries that have resulted in the youngster not able to showcase his true self to Louis van Gaal and the fans.

However, Herrera says that although he was sad that he has not been able to help the team in recent weeks, he is positive that he will return to action sooner than expected.

United have already been besieged by injury problems since the beginning of the campaign but a few players are expected to undergo late fitness tests to prove their availability for the game against Alan Pardew’s men.

As things stand, The Red Devils are in third place in the league standings, seven points behind bitter rivals Manchester City and 11 behind league leaders Chelsea who are likely to finish 2014 as the current best team in England.

However, all this could change if the current injured players return for first team duties under Van Gaal.
