The Scot is yet to drop a set in the opening four rounds and takes on Jeremy Chardy in the early hours of Wednesday morning and once more, the US Open Champion is expected to come out on top.

Chardy has surprised a few in getting to this stage of the tournament as he is ranked number-36 on the men’s circuit. He has also never managed to reach a quarter-final in a Grand Slam, so will be delighted with his performances so far.

Murray would have been expecting to come up against Juan Martin Del Potro in this round, but the Argentinean was knocked-out by Chardy in the third round at Melbourne. He has shown he can beat one of the best players around, but has to really raise his game to beat his opponent here.

The British number-one is in a different class to Del Potro and he comes into this encounter feeling fresh, confident and in superb form, so it is going to be tough for Chardy to cause him too many problems.

Murray might count himself lucky with how the draw has gone so far as he is yet to face anyone who has given him a scare, but that might be down to just how good he has been. The Scotsman will not be taking his French opponent lightly though as this is the quarter-final of the Australian Open, so anyone who has reached this stage has done so on merit.

What the US Open champion will be concentrating on his own game and he knows that is he performs at his best, he should breeze through to the semi-finals. In truth, he might hand out another straight set thrashing on Wednesday.

It is going to be an enthralling encounter in the Melbourne heat and getting off to a flying start is key for both of these players.

Should he have no problems here, then Murray’s likely opponent in the semi-final is Roger Federer. The Swiss faces a tough test in the final eight though as he takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, so has to be on top of his game.

Federer has looked in fine form throughout the tournament and doesn’t look to have broken sweat so far. However, against the number-seven seed, he is in for a tough battle as Tsonga is playing some superb tennis right now.

He has already beaten Richard Gasquet in the previous round and dropped just one set throughout the competition. Tsonga is a very good player and desperate to claim a Grand Slam title.

Much like Murray though, Federer is aware that if he can play the way that he knows he can, then he will come out on top here.

It is all set to be a superb day of action in this superb Australian Open  but once more, you would expect the two favourites to reach the semi-final and set-up a mouth-watering tie against each other.
