These two have produced some superb matches in the past and this looks to be no exception with so much at stake.

Both will feel as though they are in fine form coming into this one, but Murray has had the easier journey to the final four. The Scot is yet to drop a set throughout the tournament and hasn’t really been tested, but knows he has to be at his best to beat one of the all-time greats.

Gone are the days when Murray fears Federer though as he has beaten him in these big matches recently. They did meet in the Wimbledon final in 2012, which of course Federer won by playing some stunning tennis. But, the US Open champion feels though he has the edge over his opponent on this surface.

The 25-year-old is entering his best years as a player and if he can start 2013 with a win in Australia, then you feel as though the year will be a very good one for him. Murray won’t be thinking about trophies or even finals just yet as this is going to be a testing few hours for him and he has to be focused.

If he can get off to a flying start, then he might just continue his perfect record in Melbourne and claim another straight sets victory. It is going to be tough, but Murray is playing superb tennis at the minute and will be difficult for Federer to stop.

The Swiss knows all about winning this Australian Open and he is hoping to lift the trophy for the fifth time this year, which would be a record.

The semi-final stage is where he has fallen in the last two years of this tournament, so it could be playing on his mind a little bit. One thing is for sure, Federer is still one of the best players around and despite being 31-years-old, you are not likely to see any signs of fatigue from him.

It hasn’t been the easiest competition for the number-two seed as he needed all five sets to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the previous round. That result and performance could have given him the confidence to go all the way though.

Whichever way you look at it, you can’t help but feel as though this is going to be a classic. Whenever these two have met recently, they have been superb matches to watch and this one could even go to a fifth and deciding set.

Federer has had the tougher draw, but that could benefit him as he has needed to play superb tennis in order to qualify, whereas Murray is feeling fresh, relaxed and ready to raise his game.

It is all but certain to be a thrilling few hours in Melbourne.
