Many are expecting these two to dominate the game in 2013 and the winner here would certainly have the confidence to challenge for a lot of titles in the coming months.
When Murray and Djokovic meet, it is usually an epic encounter and this looks set to be no different. They of course met in the US Open final back in September, a match that the Scotsman ended up winning 3-2.
The British number-one will be delighted with his form in the tournament so far as well as he didn’t drop a set until the semi-final. In the round of four though, he can up against Roger Federer and needed all five sets to book his place in the final.
If you beat Federer, then you are clearly in good form and Murray will be confident that he can win his second Grand Slam title on Sunday morning.
There seems to be a confidence about the US Open champion at the moment and he looks to be in a great place both physically and mentally. Murray of course knows what a tough test awaits him on Sunday, but gone are the days where he fears an opponent like Djokovic.
The crowd at Melbourne Park have certainly warmed to him during the competition and if he can get them behind him once more, then he stands a great chance of lifting the trophy for the first time.
There is no one harder to beat on the men’s circuit than Djokovic though and the Serbian can become the first man to win three straight Australian Open titles, so will be desperate for success.
The world number-one has the knowhow in this final and that could put him in great shape to claim yet another Grand Slam victory.
Also, he has had a day longer to recover than Murray and breezed through his semi-final against David Ferrer, playing some stunning tennis against the Spaniard. Make no doubt about it, Djokovic is in fine form.
He is likely to come into this one as the favourite given his record in Melbourne and that is usually a tag that he deals with very well. He has a never-say-die attitude and it doesn’t matter if he is two sets to love down, you can still not write off the current Australian Open champion.
It is difficult not to get excited about such a huge game of tennis between two outstanding players. You can expect Murray to dominate a set, but then Djokovic to come back fighting and vice-versa.
They have each suffered a scare in getting to the final but on the whole, have played well and never looked in too much danger of being knocked out of the tournament.
This eagerly anticipated encounter could just go down as one of the greatest matches the Australian Open has ever seen.
