Andy Murray faces the daunting prospect of the number one seed Novak Djokovic in tomorrow’s US Open quarter-final clash.

Djokovic is the favourite to win the Flushing Meadows crown and has been in imperious form so far in the tournament.

Murray recorded his first win over a top 10 ranked player this year in the fourth round, overcoming Jo Wilfred-Tsonga in straight sets.

]Tsonga pushed Murray all the way in each set, however the 2012 US Open champion prevailed 7-5, 7-5, 6-4.

After the match Murray admitted he reached a level he hasn’t done frequently enough this year and is close to his very best.

That is the level required to overcome Djokovic and unsurprisingly the Serbian is the overwhelming favourite to progress.

Djokovic himself eased past Philipp Kohlschreiber in the fourth round, winning 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 against the German.

The 2011 US Open champion is yet to drop a set at this year’s event, conceding an average of just seven games per match!

Murray famously beat Djokovic in the 2012 US Open final, despite dropping a two set lead.

At that stage in his career Murray hadn’t lifted a major title and question marks where being asked about his character.

Eventually he pulled through in the fifth and deciding set, much to the adulation of his British fans.

Djokovic holds a 12-8 head to head record advantage over Murray and won the only meeting between the two in 2014.

On the same day the third seed Stan Wawrinka takes on the Japanese number one in Kei Nishikori.

Nishikori outlasted Milos Raonic in an amazing five set match in the previous round, which lasted four hours and 19 minutes, the longest match at the tournament to date.

Things were slightly easier for Wawrinka who beat Tommy Robredo in four sets 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.
