Arsenal and Liverpool to lose out on winger target

Former Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing will pledge his future to Aston Villa by signing a new contract extensionApparent Arsenal and Liverpool FC target Stewart Downing has quashed rumours regarding a move away from Villa Park and has claimed that a new offer is on the table with the winger likely to sign suggesting he is enjoying his time in the midlands.

With Aston Villa struggling this season, many players at the club have been linked with a move away during the summer but a new deal offered to Downing although he still has two years left on his current contract has ruled out any chance of move to Liverpool or Arsenal.

“I think there have been a couple of conversations already with my agent. I’ve already spoken to the manager who has said he’d like to keep me. I’ve still got two years left and they’ve come to me with an offer.”

The 26 year old international added.

“For a player, that is brilliant because it gives you confidence they have faith in you and that they reward players if they do well. I’m enjoying my stay here. I’ve enjoyed it since the first day I came. It’s a terrific football club. It’s fantastic they want me.”

Regarding speculation linking him to another club Downing said.

“Ever since I was young I’ve read stories saying ‘you’re going here, you’re going there’. Obviously if you have a good season you get linked, but I’m happy here.”
