Arsenal boss impressed with determination

Arsene Wenger spoke after Arsenal’s impressive 5-3 victory over Chelsea, and said that he was delighted with the way his team fought back from being behind, but still believes there is room to improve defensively.

The Gunners had to come back from a goal down on two occasions at Stamford Bridge, but managed to take the lead at 2-2 and went on to secure the victory. This has left Wenger delighted with his team’s determination and desire to battle back and win the vital three points, and he was particularly impressed with the way his team attacked.

Following this, he believes it is important that they continue to play positively, but is adamant that they need to improve dramatically in defense.
Meanwhile the Frenchman wants to ensure that his men do not get carried away with the result and claims they must now focus on their midweek Uefa Champions League clash against Marseille.

“It was fantastic to watch, both teams went for it,” Wenger said. “In the second half I felt we were completely dominating the game and created chance after chance.

“Overall we have shown quality and mental strength as well. To go 2-1 down and come out the way we did shows great resolve in the team.
Wenger continued, “I thought we looked fragile in defence in the first half but we looked dangerous going forward.

“We achieved the target of winning a big game away from home and did it with style, but we have to keep our feet on the ground and focus on another big game on Tuesday.
“That’s the football we want to play, you always think you can get rid of the defensive mistakes we had in the first half.”
