Barcelona have confirmed that there has been no progress whatsoever on their pursuit for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas despite a bid of £30m being rejected last month.
As things stand it looks as though the player could remain. Barcelona are currently a side who will need to sell in order to make big signings and should Arsenal stand firm during the next eight weeks until their valuation of Fabregas is met, it could mean Fabregas spending yet another season at the Emirates.
With Gervinho on his way and a reported big bid for Leighton Baines on the cards, this could be somewhat of a huge turnaround in fortunes for the side that at one point almost looked to be melting away.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, when asked about Fabregas, told a Spanish press conference.
“Things have not changed, much calm is needed in this operation in order to attend to events.”
