Arsenal CEO expects other clubs to follow suit

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has told rivals that he expects them to want to be like Arsenal once the financial fairplay regulations come into effect next year.

Arsenal have always maintained a club that can compete at the highest level without mass spending on players although this season it remains to be seen whether or not they can still compete having lost three of their opening five matches in the Premier league.

Talking to the official club website Gazidis spoke out:

“Within the game every club is trying to get into a position like Arsenal where they can be self-sustaining, even the big spenders of today, we achieved that by a virtue of our own discipline and our own responsible management of the Club over a long period of time.

“If Uefa enforce it (Financial Fair Play Rule) the way they say they are going to which is consistently, openly and transparently then I think we are going to see some clubs having to amend some of their spending. That will be very positive for us.”

“We don’t support it only for that reason. If you care about the game and the direction in which it is heading then you have to ask yourself questions about how we bring more stability to the game to create an environment where we get better owners throughout the game.”
