Arsenal face competition from AC Milan for midfielder

AC Milan still require a replacement for PirloArsenal could face competition from Italian giants AC Milan for the signature of Riccardo Montolivo with the Serie A side considering a move for the player as close as January.

It had appeared that the North London side could make a move as early as January as they look to continue adding to their squad after what was an expensive final few days of the summer transfer window. AC Milan though are still looking for an experienced midfielder to take over from Andreas Pirlo who was sold on in the summer to Italian rivals Juventus.

Whilst neither club would be looking to get themselves into a bidding war, the fact that at least two sides could be seriously interested could work in Fiorentina’s favour with the players contract coming to an end at the end of this season and they will want to earn as much as possible should the 26 year old refuse to sign an extension.

Montolivo does not seem like the sort of player Wenger would normally go for and should AC Milan look to offer slightly more that Wenger’s side, it is likely that the Arsenal manager would be happy to look elsewhere for a new midfielder.

Liverpool linked with move for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser

Liverpool have been linked with a surprise January transfer window move for Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser.

The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and could therefore be available at a cut-price free to bolster the Reds’ forward options.

TalkSPORT’s south coast correspondent Alex Crook broke the news on the radio station’s Drivetime show, revealing:

“My understanding is Jurgen Klopp is lining up a surprise move for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser.

“He is out of contract next summer and that means effectively Bournemouth will have to sell him in January.

“If you had sold him last summer you might have been talking about the £20-25million mark, but now with his contract running out you might talking around the £10-15m mark.”

Such a low fee in today’s market for a player with more Premier League assists than any other player since the start of the 2018-19 season could represent a great deal for the current league leaders.

It seems unlikely Fraser would get in Liverpool’s first XI ahead of last season’s golden-boot sharers Sadio Mané or Mohamed Salah, but with Xherdan Shaqiri injured and seemingly out of favour, and Divock Origi arguably more comfortable as a central striker, there are definitely minutes to be had for another wide option.

More explosive and direct in terms of dribbling with the ball than Shaqiri, Fraser could provide Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp with the option to utilise the 4-2-3-1 system his side deployed for a spell last campaign, with Mané or Salah starting from a more central area alongside Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool fans in particular will remember the impact Fraser can have off the bench, too, after he scored one and created two more in a memorable 4-3 victory for Bournemouth against the Reds in December 2016, despite only entering the pitch as a 55th minute substitute.

The Scotland winger, however, hasn’t hit the heights of last season thus far, having spent the early weeks of the campaign on the bench.

He recently told the Bournemouth Echo that his period on the bench was “not nice and obviously frustrating,” but he has since regained his place in the side, assisting Harry Wilson, who is on loan from Liverpool, for a nicely-worked goal against Newcastle at the weekend.

TalkSPORT’s Crook not mention whether Wilson, who has proved a hit on the south coast with four league goals already this campaign, could be used as part of any potential deal.

This latest transfer development could come as a blow to Arsenal in particular, who had been more strongly linked to the player since the summer.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this one develops over the coming months.

Arsenal star striker ready to quit if the Gunners fail to get Champions League football next season

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be willing to leave the Gunners if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Gabonese international has been one of the very few shining lights in Arsenal’s season having scored 8 goals in 12 Premier League games.

Unai Emery’s side currently sit in 6th place but are already 8 points adrift of the crucial 4th place that will allow them to gain automatic qualification into Europe’s biggest competition.

Aubameyang was the joint Premier League top scorer alongside Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane and is the fastest Arsenal player to reach 50 goals for the club.

However, since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund for £57m in January 2018, the 30-year-old has yet to don the Arsenal kit in the Champions League.

The Gunners are, of course, desperate to keep their star striker and have given him the captain’s armband following Granit Xhaka’s outburst in their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

With Aubameyang’s contract running out in the summer of 2021, Arsenal would have to get a deal done before the end of January next year otherwise they would have to try and cut their losses on him.

A top-four finish is looking quite unlikely already given the turmoil that Arsenal are currently experiencing, therefore winning the Europa League is Arsenal’s best chance of securing Champions League football.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is an expert at winning the trophy given the fact he won the trophy in three consecutive seasons with Sevilla.

The Spaniard led the Gunners to the final last season but were trounced 4-1 by London rivals Chelsea, leaving the fans and the club to rue missing 4th place in the Premier League by a single point to arch-nemesis Tottenham Hotspur.

So far, Aubameyang has been unwilling to commit his future to the club as has his teammate and striking partner Alexandre Lacazette causing rumours to circulate around a possible departure in this upcoming January transfer window.

It would be highly unlikely to happen but a move to Manchester United is currently at 10/1 and a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively.

Despite the Gunners wanting to keep the Gabon national team captain, have been reports claiming that the Arsenal hierarchy are unsure whether he is fit to be a captain for the club due to his associations with the controversial YouTube channel AFTV (also known as ArsenalFanTV).

Aubameyang commented on the issue on social media by stating that he is free to talk to anyone at any time, thus perhaps adding another issue to Unai Emery’s pile.

Arsenal star heavily linked with a move to AC Milan following axe from the squad

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants AC Milan following his outburst and subsequent loss of captaincy.

The Swiss international was substituted in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace which the Arsenal fans sarcastically cheered for, thus prompting a reaction from Xhaka.

The midfielder cupped his ears whilst walking off before shouting swear words at the section of fans who were booing and jeering him.

He prompted to throw the captain’s armband off and quickly stormed into the tunnel, which resulted in a huge outrage on social media from the fans of the club.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery was thus forced to relinquish Xhaka’s captaincy duties which were then given to star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Since the incident at the Emirates, the 27-year-old has yet to feature for the Gunners with even Emery suggesting that he is not sure whether the captain of the Swiss national team will play for the club again.

The bookies have the odds of Xhaka staying at 4/6 till the end of the season whereas he is 11/10 to leave in the January transfer window.

The favourites to sign the enigmatic midfielder are AC Milan, who have Ivan Gazidis as their executive. Gazidis was the chief executive at Arsenal for nearly 10 years and was influential in bringing Xhaka to the Emirates.

Odds for Granit Xhaka’s Next Club

4/1- AC Milan

10/1- Borussia Monchengladbach

11/1- Newcastle

12/1- Atletico Madrid

14/1- Inter Milan

The fallen Italian giants are still in somewhat of a turmoil despite finishing fifth in Serie A last season, their best finish in 6 years.

They failed to qualify for the Champions League and thus the then-manager Gennaro Gattuso resigned from his post.

Gazidis appointed Marco Giampaolo but the Italian coach got sacked in early October having just been in charge for 7 games.

Stefano Pioli was immediately announced as his successor but has only won one out of the five games he has been at the helm for.

Therefore, I Rossoneri currently sit in 14th place after 12 games, 11 points adrift of 4th place Atalanta which is an automatic qualification for the Champions League.

It is reported that Xhaka is already house-hunting in Milan in a bid to put his difficult time at Arsenal behind him.

A move away from Arsenal would mark the end of a tough relationship for both parties, as when Xhaka arrived from Monchengladbach for £35m, he was earmarked as a future great midfielder.

However, he has failed to live up to the potential he showed in the Bundesliga as his performances have often left fans wanting more.
