Arsenal will face tough competition for their possible Belgian transfer target Jan Vertonghen who currently plays for Dutch side Ajax.
The defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder turned 24 last month and Ajax have confirmed that Manchester City are also interested with City boss Roberto Mancini taking time out to watch the player personally last week.
Vertonghen is currently valued around €10m but with the Eastlands side also apparently keen that figure could go up. It also suggests that despite City already having a host of defenders that they are keen to perhaps sign players so other teams cannot.
The Belgian has been heavily linked with Arsenal over the past 12 months and Arsene Wenger will need to move fast to secure his services, a personal visit from Wenger himself would certainly add weight to their interest.
