Arsenal following up interest in Serie A star

Will Arsenal beat others to the signature of Vargas?Arsenal could be readying a January bid for Fiorentina utility, Juan Manuel Vargas, after it emerged that the Gunners would be sending a scouting team to watch him play against Catania this weekend.

Vargas is well-known for his ability to play at just about any position, featuring fantastically as a wing-back, wideman and attacking midfielder.

The 28 year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for the past couple of seasons now, and with the funds gained from the sales of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal may have the funds to finally complete a move.

The Peruvian, who has made 37 appearances for his national side whom he captains, complete a £10m move to Fiorentina in 2008, and is suspected to cost somewhere around £15m if a transfer is to take place.

At his age, Vargas doesn’t really fit into the Arsenal transfer policy but if the past few months has taught the club anything, it’s that change may be needed at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger must also think hard about the personality he is potentially taking on, after it was unveiled that the versatile attacker appeared late at training after a night out on the town.

Despite this lapse of judgement, the Frenchman is in need of some creativity after the double departure he witnessed over the summer, and Vargas may be the man to fill that void.
