New Arsenal signing, Per Mertesacker, has revealed that his biggest inspiration to succeed at the Emirates Stadium is none other than former Gunners captain, Tony Adams.
The German giant completed a deadline day move in the penultimate hour of the summer transfer window, and could get his home debut against Swansea City on Saturday.
The centre-back admitted: “We didn’t get many pictures on the television but Adams was a legend. He’s a special one.”
Mertescaker went on to say: “I always looked to Arsenal and he was one of the great defenders when I was 10 or 12 years old.”
The former Werder Bremen defender unselfishly added: “I hope I can improve my performances here and get better and better. I want to be useful for the team.”
