Arsenal looking at permanent move for young Russian left-back

Schennikov looks to be the type of player Wenger would go forArsenal are keen to add another left-back to their ranks this January and sources suggest it could be a permanent move and not just a loan deal.

The Emirates side are currently looking closely at CSKA Moscow left-back Georgi Schennikov who at just 20 years old, would appear to be the perfect age that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would like to bring under his wing. Although not yet capped as a full international for Russia, Schennikov has made 14 appearances at under-21 level, scoring a single goal during that time.

Being part of Russia’s top side he has experienced the winning of trophies, making the 20 year old remarkably unique compared to the current Arsenal squad who are yet to lift any silverware for the last six years. Since making his first appearance for CSKA Moscow in 2008, Schennikov has lifted the Russian Cup twice and the Russian Super Cup once.

Arsenal are currently assessing their defensive situation which Wenger admits is beginning to shine however with the constant injuries to Kieran Gibbs the 62 year old has admitted to be looking for another left sided defender with the young Russian apparently near the top of Wenger’s wishlist.
