Arsenal looking for “top drawer striker”

Arsenal will consider paying good money for a proven goal scorer during the summerSources in London have claimed that Arsenal are on the look out for a “top drawer striker” and that money will be spent on a proven goal scorer during the summer.

The striker position is certainly one that requires investment at Arsenal and with plenty of cash remaining after the sales of Fabregas and Nasri, the Emirates side are in a prime position to offer clubs a substantial amount for a goal scorer. At the moment the pressure is on Robin van Persie to keep the goals ticking over but fans realise that should one of his infamous injuries occur, the North London side will be left with little fire power.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is normally one who would purchase a very young striker and help them grow, much in the way he has done with van Persie however the 62 year old manager appears to be wanting an immediate fix to the striker depth. Strikers these days cost all sorts of money but for £25m plus there not many about, certainly not many that can score goals and are looking for a move away.

Karim Benzema has always been linked with a move to Arsenal and would represent the obvious “top drawer” choice but Remy of Marseille has also been linked and although his quality is there, top drawer is not what he would be described as of yet.

Arsenal have been linked with moves for their former striker Adebayor but one cannot really see that happening, what with the way he celebrated when scoring against his old side and now that he is playing for North London rivals Spurs. Other players to be linked with is Lille striker Moussa Sow but again, if sources prove to be right, Arsenal can expect someone who is likely to shine at next years 2012 European Champions. Who it turns out to be will be something everyone will be guessing for some time.
