Sources have claimed that Arsenal’s interest in signing Lukas Podolski from Cologne has not waned despite a drop in speculation in recent weeks.
The news comes just days after the German international suffered a recurrence of a foot injury that will keep him out of action for the next three to four weeks.
Despite the setback, the Gunners remain keen to stage a last gasp move for Podolski who is now expected to miss Cologne’s next five league fixtures.
If first scans are accurate, it means that Polish-born Podolski will return for the last ten league matches of the Bundesliga club’s season.
Arsene Wenger is known to be interested in signing the 26 year-old but ruled out a winter move for his signature last month; something is now said to be reconsidering.
A host of other clubs have also registered interest in the former Bayern Munich forward including clubs from Italy, Spain and Russia.
As a result, the North London outfit are considering reviving their bid before speculation mounts once more in the summer.
Podolski is understood to be moving on in 2012 and will likely have his pick of a raft of teams come July, leaving Arsenal with the dilemma of purchasing the star now.
Wenger has also been linked with moves for Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda and Adam Johnson over the course of the January transfer window and with Theo Walcott rumoured to be considering his future at the club, wide reinforcements could well be required.
