Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the North London club are starting to look for a possible replacement for the injured Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs is still suffering from a hernia issue and with other injuries to Sagna, Santos and Carl Jenkinson, Wenger is left with little in the way of a full-back having to use Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen as cover in those areas. Although Arsenal have been linked more with a move for a striker to support Robin van Persie, Wenger now admits that they are actively seeking a new defender and that they will not rule out a possible loan deal.
“He (Gibbs) will see a specialist again and if something happens there that he has had a real setback then we could (enter the loan market), possibly, yes, that’s what we are doing. We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back. He has started to run again yesterday and today”.
Wenger also claimed that despite losing to Manchester City at the weekend
“I said after the game that we can take a lot of encouragement therefore it’s important we respond quickly, it was very difficult to explain. All players had spirit. We are a team who wants to respond quickly now and keep our spirit and determination.”
“Then we have a bright future, but it’s important that if we keep that spirit and determination we can go from strength to strength. We are not the same team we were two months ago.”
Who Arsenal are targeting as a possible loanee is something that will bring with it huge speculation over the coming weeks.
