Arsenal manager believes a “few more wins” could see side as title contenders

Wenger feels a few more wins for Arsenal could see them as title contenders once againArsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels his side could be title contenders once again, if they manage to win a few more games and Manchester City have a bad patch.

Only three weeks ago the Arsenal manager had ruled the Emirates side out of the title race after suffering defeats to Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United and Liverpool, but a run of three victories, including a 5-3 win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last weekend has given the side hope.

There had been talk that Arsenal’s new priority would be the top four however a string of good recent results has seen Wenger’s side back in with a chance and victory against West Bromwich Albion could see Arsenal reach the top five for the first time this season.

When asked if Arsenal were once again title contenders, Wenger replied:

“It is too early to say that, if we win a few more games, why not? At the moment I do not think we are far enough to say that. We are only three points behind Chelsea but we need a strong period and Manchester City need a weaker period which they are not having at the moment.”

The Arsenal manager continued:

“At the moment, we are not near enough to say we are playing for the championship but we want to come back. We are back already in a position where we can aspire to be in the top four. We were not three weeks ago.”

Wenger added:

“Mathematically we are not out of it but you have to be closer to speak about it. We are 12 points behind Man City and that is too much. So for us, let’s be humble and progressive.”
