Arsenal manager pulls out of title race

Wenger does see the Premiership title as realistic for ArsenalArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the race for the title is over where his side is concerned admitting that they should now begin to focus on getting into the top four.

In what has been a drastic start to Arsenal’s Premiership campaign, the side have already lost four games including Liverpool, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, and most recently, Tottenham Hotspur. Those losses, coupled with a draw in their first fixture against Newcastle United has seen the side remain in the bottom half and the currently sit in 15th on seven points from seven games.

That Wenger is already throwing in the title towel may come as a surprise to many, particularly as he never tends to give in at such an early stage of the season, however with many fans blaming the lack of quality signings this summer, certain groups will have expected the side to be in this sort of trouble so early on.

Wenger, who claims his Arsenal side is lacking in confidence, also admits that the Premiership title is not a realistic option at this time.

“At the moment we have to set ourselves a realistic target to get in touch with those teams who are fighting to stay in the Champions League. To say we will win the league is not realistic, we are 12 points behind Manchester United and Manchester City so it is not realistic today to say that we will win the league. We have to fight to come back into a much better position.”

The Arsenal manager added:

“We lack a little bit of confidence at the moment and just want to protect our result too much when we have one.”
