Arsenal manager suggests captaincy has helped striker

Wenger is more than impressed with Koscielny's developmentArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoke of his delight at the form of captain Robin van Persie after the Dutchman scored a hat-trick against Chelsea on Saturday.

The win leaves Arsenal just three points behind Chelsea and Wenger believes that the players confidence is at such a high level that he can make the most of any given situation.

“Robin has scored 28 in 27 games and still people tell me he is not a centre forward, how many goals does a centre forward have to score? We are a team that goes forward a lot and players spend a lot of time in the final third.”

The Arsenal manager added:

“His movement is exceptional and his confidence is so high that he takes advantages of all situations. I believe that the captaincy has helped too.”

Arsene Wenger was also full of praise for centre-back Laurent Kosielny who the 61 year old manager described as quick, sharp and a good reader of the game. despite Arsenal leaking three goals to Chelsea at the weekend, Wenger believe the 25 year old is getting better and better.

“I believe Koscielny is a top centre-back, he is 25, has had one year at the top level in France and is in his second year here. Last week as well he was top class. He goes from strength to strength. He is less impressive in his size – he is not six foot three, but he is quick, sharp and reads the game well.”

The Emirates side have the pleasure of playing at home in their next two matches. Against Marseille in the Champions League and then hosting West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.
