Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the development of Spartak Moscow’s giant 6ft 4in striker Artem Dzyuba. The 22 year old is in the mould of Liverpool’s latest arrival Andy Carrol and was previously on loan at FC Tomsk scoring an impressive 13 goals in 30 appearances.
Despite poor refereeing during Arsenal’s nil-nil versus Sunderland at the weekend, the Gunner’s still seem short on attacking prowess, especially when their main goal machine Robin van Persie is not on the field. Chamakh showed good promise at the beginning of the season and Bendtner still seems to be a player who does not know where he will be come the end of the summer.
For Arsenal Dzyuba would add the height in attack but with the player being descibed as elegant, he can also finish with both feet and has been described as an up and coming Vieri.
Although rumours have suggested that Arshavin could be making his way in the opposite direction, albeit to Spartak’s rivals Zenit St. Petersburg, it remains unlikely that he shall leave during the summer with Wenger instead opting to make a move for the tall Russian as either back up or as a long term replacement for Bendtner.
Dzyuba would certainly be within Arsenal’s remit of a young player who can be purchased very reasonably and developed under the shrewd eye of Arsene Wenger although where value is concerned it will remain something “undisclosed” between the two clubs.
