Reports are suggesting that Arsenal could make a move in the summer and sign Racing Club midfielder, Claudio Yacob.
The 24 year-old has made over 150 appearances for the Argentine side and has captained them since the 2008 Apertura season, despite only being 21 at the time.
Yacob also earned a call-up to the Argentina national side last year and has now featured for the South American giants on three occasions.
Possibly one of the more attractive factors around Yacob’s signature is that it would be free due to his signature at Racing expiring in the summer.
Arsenal reportedly enquired about the player last week with the hopes of bringing him in on a cut-price January deal, however the Gunners opted to wait and will now look to acquire his signature when he is a free agent in July.
Yacob has earned comparisons to his countryman Javier Mascherano, making a name for himself as a no-nonsense, tough tackling midfielder who operates in front of the back four.
Although the North London outfit have Alex Song in the position at the moment, the Cameroonian international could be used in a more advanced role should Yacob come to the Emirates Stadium and the middleman would provide ample cover in defensive midfield.
Arsenal trail fourth-placed Chelsea by five points after slumping to a 0-0 draw at Bolton last weekend, however Arsene Wenger remains confident that his side can earn a Champions League spot.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Frenchman stated: “We are confident but I believe we have to produce our form game by game. For us, every game in the championship now is a cup final.”
