Arsenal signing insists Premier League switch was no deadline panic

Arsenal summer loan signing, Yossi Benayoun, claims that his decision to move to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day was not a shock signing as he always expected to move on the last day of the window.

The midfielder also revealed that he held talks with former club Liverpool before he chose to begin a new venture with the North London outfit.

Benayoun stated that the only thing preventing him from completing the switch earlier was waiting for Chelsea to sign a replacement, which they found in the last minute signing of Raul Meireles.

The Israeli international said: “I had a few good options from clubs in England and outside. There was a few talks with Liverpool. A few teams but as soon as I heard about Arsenal my mind was made up.”

The 31 year-old insist the Gunners can get back to winning ways with their new squad, adding: “I want to improve my understanding with the team but I think there’s plenty of quality in this team so we’ll quickly understand each other and be better.”
