Arsenal skipper Robin Van Persie has backed his recent outburst in which he reiterate his commitment to the Gunners.
He spoke freely during his pre-match programme notes, which the Dutchman used to underline his passion for the club and his desire to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The striker laughed off speculation that he had moved house and was ready to move away from the club, following speculation linking him with Manchester City.
Van Persie forgot about all recent reports and allowed his footballing talents to do the talking, as he scored two goals to bag struggling Arsenal all three points against Sunderland, including the games opener after just 29 seconds and a sensational second-half free-kick.
And Van Persie told Sky Sports after the win: “I had seen loads of comments about a story like that, I thought after one or two days it would go away, but it didn’t so I felt it was time to explain things and I did that.
“I’m committed. This is my eighth year. If you can say of one player that he’s committed, it’s me.”
Van Persie was also as surprised as anybody to score after less than 30 seconds at Emirates Stadium.
“I guess it was my first touch,” he said. “I was a bit surprised as well, but it was a really good pass from Gervinho, I took a good touch with my left foot and it went in.
“But I didn’t know it was such a quick goal. How long was it?” He added.
Van Persie’s superb free-kick cancelled out an equally impressive set-piece from former Arsenal player Sebastian Larsson.
The Gunners hero said: “I felt confident because it’s my favourite position, but I have to be a bit critical and look at myself because I have missed many chances, so it was about time to be honest.”
