Arsenal striker insists strengthening squad is vital

Arsenal striker and club captain Robin van Persie has again insisted that the side be strengthened after the sales of Nasri and Fabregas to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively.

Wenger has recently claims that he will expect to add some players before the transfer window closes in six days time and van Persie, whilst hoping that new players are indeed added, also had praise for how their current crop of youngsters are doing.

When asked by Skysports whether new players are required, van Persie replied:

“It’s vital for Arsenal, of course we did lose Samir and Cesc which is very hard for us because those are two great players.”

Regarding the performance on Wednesday evening that saw the side through to the Champions League group stages van Persie said:

“To come up with that performance in the second half is special. If you look at our team and people did question our mental strength. We’ve shown loads of that. Carl Jenkinson for example, I think it was his best game so far.”

“We played really well. Szczesny is on fire. He saves almost everything. Frimpong is doing well. I’m just happy that we’re in it and let’s go from there.”
