Arsenal switch attention back to £17m centre-back

Arsenal have switched their attention back to Bolton Wanderers center-back Gary Cahill and are expected to make their move next week in a move believed to be worth £14m plus add-ons.

Arsenal’s initial choice was that of Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka however the price, and the fact the 28 year old will only want to move if Everton decide to move him on has left Arsenal looking at Owen Coyle’s central defender once again.

Everton are looking for at least £18m for Jagielka knowing that Arsenal have enough cash to pay up front after the sales of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal are however not looking to spend that sort of money on someone of his age and would prefer to invest slightly less on Cahill who is three years younger.

Everton are in need of a cash injection but manager David Moyes wants to keep his defense intact unless there is enough funds to buy a reasonable and experienced replacement.
