Arsenal are looking to make experienced Ajax and Netherlands goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg their priority signing in the summer with a £12m bid.
The Dutch international has a year left on his contract to run but has already mentioned that he will be moving on during the summer. For Arsenal this would be a huge step in the right direction for once and an initial outlay of £12m will be seen as a clever investment.
With Stekelenburg already seeing his team mate Robin van Persie at Arsenal, and former colleague Thomas Vermaelen also at the club, it would be seen as a decent choice of club for the Holland number one however Arsenal would face competition with reports suggesting that Manchester United are also interested in the highly rated international.
There are currently islands untouched by civilisation where even their inhabitants realise that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger needs to invest properly in a top quality goalkeeper and should the North London club go ahead with the bid of around €15m then Ajax, and possibly more importantly, Stekelenburg, are likely to accept.
