Arsenal are ready to make a firm £12m offer for Newcastle United’s holding midfielder Cheick Tiote in the hope the player could be tempted in a move to North London.
The 25 year old defensive midfielder has impressed since arriving last summer and although Newcastle United are very keen to keep hold of him, they realise that Arsenal now have the cash to make a very tempting offer. Despite Tiote also having signed a six and a half year contract deal very recently, he may find the chance to challenge for silverware to difficult to turn down.
Chelsea are also interested in the tough midfielder and with Michael Essien sidelined for at least the next five months the Stamford Bridge club are considering a serious move for the Ivorian.
With Arsenal now having an extra boost to their transfer chest Wenger has confirmed he is looking to add some more players, suggesting the squad is a “little short” on players, the 61 year old manager is planning to bring in a defensive midfielder, a centre-back, should Everton accept a new offer for Phil Jagielka and possibly back up Robin van Persie.
